Why Hire a birth photographer?

After labour when you sit down to reminisce about the details of the birth, you often find yourself drawing a blank with everyone else trying to fill you in.  When looking at photos of the birth it can jog your memory, and even bring back the emotions you had.

I have had a dad tell me after seeing the photos; "You captured the emotion." to me that was success. To capture how everyone in the room is experiencing the birth.

Can't dad just take the photos?

Sure dad can use his iPhone to snap a few shots of the birth, but then who is going to capture dad's face when he realizes he has a son or daughter.  Who is going to capture the moment that your mom  becomes a grandmother.  Surely dad will forget that taking photos as well as comforting mother is his job when he is busy becoming a father.

How hard can it be to take a good birth photo?

Quality is hard to get with birth photos, the light is dim, and the space is often tight. (you have no idea how many times I've tried to climb behind equipment in a hospital to get the shot.)

The lenses I have are great with low light, as well as tight spaces. With a professional birth photographer you are guaranteed some great photos, filled with raw emotion.
